Viewing Album:  A Day With the CHW V92 Grain Train!

Album Info: This day started out with catching a train by the parking deck at JMU. After I saw that it was an empty grain train with four motors on the front I decided to follow this train to Shenandoah. Once I got into Shenandoah I saw a loaded grain train in the yard which was to be taken back to Harrisonburg, an actually the new mill in Linville. I got a good look and feel for what a typical day might be like for the crew. It takes roughly 3 hours to get from Harrisonburg to Shenandoah and then back to Harrisonburg. For the crew of the V92, this was to take up to 6 hours to complete most of which was waiting for another train on the main which was the VSO1. In Shenandoah they conducted break tests around 10:30 and they asked to proceed on to Elkton, only to be told to, "Hold up"! Track authority was given at 10:45 but they still had to wait on the VSO1 to clear the main as she was returning from a local run from Coor's and Merck. Finally at 11:15 they got the go ahead from the Crewe dispatcher to clear the yard out of Shenandoah. One of the crewmen commented, "At least we get paid good to sit like this"!!
